The Culprit: Xylitol in Toothpaste

The danger lurks in a common ingredient – xylitol. This sugar substitute, perfectly safe for humans, is toxic to dogs. It triggers a rapid release of insulin, causing a dangerous drop in blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Symptoms can appear within 15 minutes and include vomiting, weakness, wobbliness, seizures, and even coma.
